Family Friendly Red Kettle Kickoff at Maurer’s Market

JANESVILLE, WI – On Friday, November 15th the Salvation Army kicks off it's 2019 Red Kettle Campaign at the Janesville Maurer’s Market store location. It’s the Salvation Army’s 129th Red Kettle campaign, which runs through Christmas Eve and is the largest and longest-running fundraiser of its kind.

To mark the start of the Red Kettle campaign and the holiday season, Maurer’s will offer family friendly events all day long starting at 9:45 am when the Salvation Army musicians will play for shoppers. Vice President, Kristie Maurer said, “We are excited to be a Red Kettle collection location. We plan to kick off the campaign with activities throughout the day. We’ll have something for all ages and we’ve also created a special promotion that enables shoppers to give back easily when they shop. On kick off day, shoppers will be rewarded when they purchase $50.00 worth of groceries with a $10.00 gift card. They can choose to use the gift card on their next shopping trip or they can donate immediately to the Salvation Army.”

The schedule of activities beginning at 9:45am and ending at 8pm include:

9:45 am – Salvation Army musicians on premise

10:00 am – Hot chocolate and cookies served with the majors

11:00 am – Candy cane give-away

12:00 pm – Santa arrives

4:00 pm - Hot chocolate and cookies served with the majors

The Red Kettle campaign raised $142.7 million during the 2018 campaign. From its humble beginnings in 1891 as a Salvation Army captain’s start-up program in San Francisco, the Red Kettle Campaign has grown into one of the most recognizable and important charitable campaigns in the United States. It provides toys for kids, coats for the
homeless, food for the hungry and countless social service programs year-round. As part of the campaign, more than 25,000 Salvation Army volunteers throughout the country ring bells and solicit donations to the red kettles. The Salvation Army will serve more than 23 million people each year, which includes more than 9 million nights of shelter and 52 million meals.
