Maurer’s Market Support Local Charity with Pantry Hunger Bags

Janesville, WI On any given day of the week, shoppers at the family owned Maurer’s Market can purchase a freshly made pantry hunger bag that directly benefits the local charity, Echo. Echo, which stands for Everyone Cooperating to Help Others, has grown from being a food pantry and clothing depot to being a charity organization called upon to help local, low-income families with much more; including temporary housing, food, transportation and other emergency needs.

Maurer’s staff have been filling the brown paper bags with curated grocery items all year round. The bags can be found daily on an aisle endcap labeled Echo Pantry Hunger Bags near the checkout counters. The pantry bags range in price from $7-$10. Echo volunteers pick up the donated bags and deliver them directly to their pantry shelves, so that local families and individuals in need can find the donated items. In addition to the hunger bags, Maurer’s often contributes their weekly overages to supplement the Echo donation program.

Jeff Maurer, owner of Maurer’s Market said, “We are committed to supporting our local community. It’s at the heart of our business and what we stand for. Our staff and shoppers have fully embraced the donation program. In fact, we sometimes have a hard time keeping up with the demand for bags. That just shows you how important ECHO is to this community.” Jessica Locher, of Echo, Inc said, “We couldn’t provide the support to our families without the community involvement and donors like Maurer’s Market. Their donations help people get through tough situations. The pantry bags keep families fed. ECHO donors help us make Janesville a
better place to live.”
